Area teams advance, exit state tournament


MURFREESBORO (WATE) - Area high school teams made great strides toward state championships at the Blue Cross Spring Fling in Murfreesboro.

Webb's soccer team survived on penalty kicks to beat ECS 9-8 on Wednesday night. The win puts the Spartans in the Div II title game Thursday against St. George's.

Farragut beat Houston 3-1 while Franklin defeated Maryville 3-1.  Farragut will face Franklin in the Class AAA title game on Friday night.

CAK will play for the A-AA title on Friday after beating White House 3-2. The Warriors will face Kingsbury for the championship.

In baseball, Farragut and Pigeon Forge both advance in their brackets.

The Admirals beat Tullahoma 2-1 and will face Dyer County in their next game.

The Tigers defeated Murfreesboro Central 9-2 and will take on Dyersburg.

In softball, Gibbs fell to Chester County 4-3. The Lady Eagles face Lexington in an elimination game on Thursday.

Maryville defeated Collierville 6-1 in an elimination game. The Lady Rebels face Munford in another elimination game on Thursday.

Seymour lost twice on Wednesday. The Lady Eagles exit the tournament after falling to Munford 1-0 and then losing an elimination game 2-0 to Riverdale.

Oliver Springs lost to Richland 4-2. The Lady Bobcats play an elimination game against Trinity on Thursday.
