Georgia man arrested in Sevier County for child abuse

SEVIERVILLE (WATE) - A Georgia man was arrested at a Sevier County restaurant after witnesses reported a possible case of child abuse to police.

The incident happened at Johnny Rockets on Sunday just before 4 p.m.

An employee said he heard commotion, pounding on the wall and the child crying.

When the boy came out of the bathroom, he was crying, shaking, had a bright red face and a large bruise on the right side of his cheek.

He came out of the bathroom with Leon Paul Woody, 26, of Grovetown, Ga.

Woody was arrested and under questioning admitted to spanking the child on his bottom.

The boy told police Woody kicked him and showed authorities a fresh mark in his groin area that was consistent with a shoe impression.

Woody was arrested and charged with child abuse. His bond was set at $10,000.
