SEYMOUR (WATE) - Four people, including two children, were injured in a head-on collision in Sevier County Friday after a driver fell asleep at the wheel.

The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. on Boyds Creek Highway in Seymour.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said Jeffrey Haggard, 36, was heading north when he nodded off and drifted into the other lane.

The driver of an oncoming car tried to avoid the crash, but Haggard woke up and steered back into his lane and the two vehicles collided.

Haggard and a 12 and 13-year-old in his vehicle were injured.

The other driver, Robert Goodin, 49, was also hurt and cited for not wearing a seat belt.

All were taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center via ambulance.

Haggard was cited for several offenses, including failure to maintain lane, due care, financial responsibility, and a child restraint violation.
