KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A Knox County woman is facing aggravated child abuse charges for handcuffing two boys to cabinets and beating and burning their bodies.

Jessica Cox, 36, was arrested by deputies at her Canton Hollow Drive home in West Knox County on Tuesday.

According to an arrest warrant, Cox repeatedly handcuffed the two brothers to each other and then to kitchen cabinets.

One of the boys told deputies that on multiple occasions, Cox handcuffed him to an upper cabinet with his hands above his head while she hit him repeatedly on his feet with a rubber mallet and a wooden rolling pin.

The warrant said he suffered from swollen legs, a large wound on the top of his foot and lacerations to his wrists.

His brother also had abrasions on his wrists and reported being handcuffed by Cox.

Both brothers also said that she had burned them with cigarettes and incense.

The arrest warrant also said one boy had scars consistent with healed burns on his arms and genitals.

Cox was charged with one count of child abuse and one count of aggravated child abuse.

She's being held at the Knox County Detention Facility on $25,000. If released, Cox is ordered to have no contact with the boys.

Deputies say Cox has a criminal history in Knox County that includes drugs and shoplifting.
