Eastman to expand in Kingsport, adding 300 jobs

KINGSPORT (WATE) - Eastman Chemical Company and the state of Tennessee have partnered together on an investment project that will create hundreds of new jobs in the Tri-Cities area.

Labeled Project Inspire, plans call for a $1.6 billion investment at the company's Kingsport site to focus on new growth opportunities, safety and environmental projects, increased warehouse capacity, building renovations and expansion of its corporate campus, among other projects.

Officials estimate the $1.6 billion investment will create 300 new jobs.

The company will receive help from the state of Tennessee through funding to support the expansion of the corporate campus, road infrastructure improvements and a grant to train workers through the Regional Center for Advanced Manufacturing.

Eastman Chemical Company, located on Holston River, has operated in Tennessee since 1920. The company currently employs about 7,000 people in Kingsport alone.
