KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Though he is appealing his conviction, former judge Richard Baumgartner is now in federal custody.

Baumgartner was sentenced to six months in federal prison after he was convicted of lying to cover up the involvement of his mistress in a drug conspiracy.

His lawyer has since filed an appeal of the ruling.

In the meantime, Baumgartner has begun serving his sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Gilmer, a medium-security prison in Glenville, West Virginia.
