CHURCH HILL (WATE) - A welfare check on several Hawkins County children led to two arrests for making meth.

Hawkins County deputies responded to a home on Davis Road in Church Hill to check out a tip they got from a caller who claimed the children at the home didn't have any food.

When deputies arrived at the home, they spoke with David Dwight Larkins, 44, and Justine Marie Larkins, 40, who confirmed that four children were inside, ranging in age from seven to ten years old.

After the homeowners agreed to let deputies inside, they found a one-pot meth lab inside a plastic bottle.

They immediately evacuated the home.

After narcotics investigators arrived on the scene, they found several chemical products that had already been mixed together to begin the meth making process.

They also found two spoons with a white residue believed to be meth.

After investigating further, the deputies found a strainer, a soda can with a white substance, aluminum foil, sulfuric acid, pliers, a marijuana pipe, digital gram scales, ammonium nitrate, two hydrochloric acid generators and half of a green pill, believed to be Klonopin.

David and Justine Larkins were decontaminated and taken to the Hawkins County Jail.

The four children were taken by DCS and evaluated at a local hospital.

David Larkins was charged with initiating the meth making process; possession of meth; Klonopin, and drug paraphernalia; and maintaining a dwelling where drugs are housed or sold.

Justine Larkins was charged with promoting meth making.
