KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Family members and friends are worried about the safety of a woman who has not returned home after leaving Knoxville earlier this week.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office says 39-year-old Holly Fischer was reported missing by her father, Ted Fischer, of Knoxville.

Fischer told deputies his daughter was emotional and upset because of a divorce when she left his Knoxville home on Monday. She was heading back to her home in Charlotte, N.C.  Even so, Fischer's childhood friend told WSOC, the Charlotte ABC affiliate it's unlike her to leave without telling anyone.

"There is something going on, there is a piece of the puzzle missing," said Liz Stafford, her friend.

According to the father, Holly Fischer's roommate contacted him on Wednesday, telling him that Holly never returned to their North Carolina apartment.

Holly Fischer is described as a white female, 39 years old, 5'10" and weighs about 140 pounds. She was last seen in Newport wearing a white blouse, blue jean shorts and sandals.

North Carolina authorities think she may be driving a silver 2004 Infiniti FX35 with North Carolina license plate XYH6678.

If you have any information about Fischer you are asked to call 911.
