KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Lady Vols softball team knew they were heading to Tornado Alley to play softball, but the chances of seeing a real twister never occurred to them until Friday night.

A deadly tornado outbreak that hit Oklahoma City forced the NCAA to postpone games in the Women's Softball World Series and forced the teams to seek shelter.

The Lady Vols were scheduled to play Washington Friday night.

The game has been moved to Saturday at 11 a.m. Central Time.

With the threat of tornadoes looming on Friday, the NCAA delayed the start of games. The twisters struck a few hours later and the Lady Vols and other teams sought protection in the basement of a parking garage near the team hotel.

"The alert was announced at the hotel telling everybody to go to the basement," Lady Vols Co-Head Coach Karen Weekly told WATE Sports.

"We all headed down there and then it was just a lot of waiting-- some anxious moments because you get a lot of people together like that, you know it's a pretty severe situation above you and you can't see what's going on.

"I thought the kids were a little worried but I think everybody for the most part stayed calm."

All the players and the coaching staff are safe.
