MADISONVILLE (WATE) - The family of a Monroe County boy fighting leukemia received a big surprise Saturday night.

The family was given a new car and more than $5,000 from a Superhero/Princess fundraiser.

Brayden Poore is fighting leukemia and his family needed the help for his ongoing treatments. "It means so much. Definitely so much. We were having some issues with our car and this is just amazing," said Brayden's mother Robin Poore.

Brayden has been diagnosed with leukemia and recently underwent chemotherapy.

The fundraiser was originally scheduled to benefit the family of Brookly Shaw. Her family recently returned from Disney World. Brooklyn has a type of nerve cancer called neuroblastoma, and after being diagnosed, she asked to see Mickey Mouse. The Disney cartoon was one of the shows she watched the most during her grueling cancer treatments.

The Shaw family says they're indebted to the community, and they wanted another family to experience the joy they've gotten. Instead of using the money, they decided to give all the proceeds from the event to the Poore family.

Martha Rachal, Brooklyn's great-grandmother said, "Our families and our church have overwhelmed us with giving and sharing the burden of Brooklyn's illness, and we want to pass it on to another family that's going through the same thing that we are."

Neither child was able to attend the fundraiser because of their illnesses. Although they've never met, the families are hoping to get the pair together once they begin feeling better.

Saturday's event was organized by Team Lexi, an organization that raises money for the families of children with cancer.
