Knoxville man injured in home invasion


KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A Knoxville man was injured Wednesday night when an intruder broke into his home.

Knoxville police the home invasion happened around 8:45 p.m. at a home on Hiawassee Avenue.

The homeowner, Eugene Underwood, was on the phone with a 911 operator as the intruder broke through the door and held him at gunpoint.

Officers say they found the front door of the home nearly split in half horizontally.

Underwood suffered a large cut on his forehead.

Witnesses told police the intruder quickly fled in a white Ford Explorer.

Underwood was taken to an area hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown.

Police say they are not sure if anything was taken from the home.
