KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A young woman was shot and killed Friday morning at a home in the Mechanicsville community.

The Knoxville Police Department says 21-year-old Uniqua Brown was the victim of an apparent drive-by shooting.

The shooting happened at a home in the 1400 block of Nolan Avenue just before noon.

Authorities are charging 22-year-old Lavonte Dominique Simmons and 24-year-old Shawn David O'Neill, both of Memphis, with first degree murder.

"I thought it was firecrackers, then I heard him screaming ‘My baby mamma's dead! My baby momma's dead!' and called 911," said neighbor Tonya Allen.

Bullet holes riddled many cars on the street and witnesses say there were multiple shots.

"[There] were ten, 15 shots, a lot of shots," Allen said.

Witnesses on scene said the gunfire came from an apparent drive-by shooting.

"It was two ladies standing out there when they did the drive-by and one of them got hit," Allen explained.

Brown was unresponsive when police arrived. She was taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.

Brown had recently given birth to twins.

Police say suspects were seen abandoning their car and running inside a home on Moses Avenue.

Authorities found O'Neill and Simmons hiding upon searching the home.

Both men are being held on a $1,000,000 bond.
