Man re-jailed hours after being released

NEW TAZEWELL (WATE) – New Tazewell Police arrested a man suspected of robbing a Walmart jewelry counter less than two hours after the crime.

Police say William Rouse of Cumberland Gap pried open a cash register with a knife around 5:30 p.m. Friday night, grabbed some money, and ran.

A manhunt began, with the help of Tazewell Police and the Claiborne County Sheriff's Office.

At about 7 p.m., a New Tazewell officer captured Rouse.

Authorities took Rouse to the Claiborne County Jail and charged him with robbery, theft under $500, vandalism over $500, public intoxication, and use of a deadly weapon.

According to police, Rouse began Friday in the Claiborne County Jail but was released after serving time on a public intoxication charge.
