NEWPORT (WATE) - A community is rushing to aid a family who lost two relatives earlier in the week in a car crash.

Lisa McMahan was pulling into her driveway, her 62-year-old father Charles and her son 6-year-old Dylan Sisk in the car with her, when they were rear-ended by another driver.

Their car crashed into a tree, both Charles McMahan and Sisk were killed.

A benefit was held Saturday in Newport to help the family with funeral expenses.

"This fundraiser has been amazing," McMahan said. "There's no words. It's been the hardest few days we've ever had to deal with."

Lisa McMahan remembers her child as a special individual.

"He was the most precious baby," said McMahan. "He never knew a stranger. He was such a sweet little baby. He just graduated kindergarden and was fixing to go into the first grade. We were so proud of him, so proud."

"My dad was such a good man," McMahan said. "He'd give the shirt off his back."

Robert Ervin didn't know the family directly, but that didn't stop him from helping out.

"You see how big of a family you really have," Ervin said.

Organizers raised more than $4,600 from Saturday's event.

If you want to help, you can donate money to Capital Bank in Newport or Manes Funeral Home, located on East Main Street in Newport. Just include the names Sisk or McMahan when you donate the money.
