PIGEON FORGE (WATE) - After years of delays, an entertainment development project in Pigeon Forge is finally about to open.

The Island in Pigeon Forge will open the first phase of its development for business on June 21.

The 22-acre mixed-use entertainment project features restaurants, shopping, attractions, and a 200-foot-high observation wheel with views of the Smokies.

Among the business that will be opening are Auntie Anne's, Cinnabon, Island Yogurt, The Fudgery, Poynor's Pommes Frites, Timberwood Grill, Mellow Mushroom, Dude's Daiquiris, Arcade City, The Flying Horse Carousel, The Euro-Bungy Dome, The Island Trading Post and The Great Smoky Mountain Wheel Gift Shop.

The development, once called Belle Island, sat vacant for three years after the original developers abandoned the project.

It saw new life in Sept. 2011, when the new developer took over the project, eventually rechristening it The Island.

For more information about The Island, visit the development's website and Facebook page.
