LOUISVILLE (WATE) - At least ten people were forced from their homes Tuesday evening by an apartment fire.

The flames broke out at Riverside Manor on Manor Way in Louisville around 7:30 p.m.

Authorities say the fire started in a lower level apartment.

While no people were home at the time, two cats and a dog were killed in the fire.

Though firefighters contained the flames quickly, surrounding apartments suffered smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but firefighters suspect a heating and air unit is to blame for the incident.

The American Red Cross is assisting displaced residents.
