KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A dispute between neighbors led to a shooting Wednesday afternoon in South Knox County.

Rural/Metro transported Brad Whaley, 26, to UT Medical Center after being shot.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office says Whaley was shot by his neighbor, Darrell Lewelling, 55.

Witnesses told officers Lewelling showed up at Whaley's home on Bays Mountain Road around 4:30 p.m. in what was described as an "irate state."

Whaley calmed Lewelling down and walked him back to his residence, also on Bays Mountain Road, the witnesses said. The argument reignited, however and Lewelling began shoving Whaley.

Lewelling allegedly then went into his mobile home, returned with a handgun, and shot Whaley.

Whaley's condition is unknown at this time.

Lewelling is currently in custody and will be charged with aggravated assault.
