1 killed, 2 injured in Hamblen County wreck

MORRISTOWN (WATE) - Police are investigating a wreck that left one person dead and injured two others on Friday night in Hamblen County.

The Morristown Police Department said it happened around 7:20 p.m. on East Andrew Johnson Highway in front of Russellville Elementary School.

Officials said Jimmy Fergerson of Bean Station was driving his semi rig east on 11E.

He was struck head on by Jerry Sutton of Morristown.  The initial impact caused the semi to jack knife and hit another car.

The semi rolled onto its side, and pinned the third car underneath it, killing that driver instantly.

Police said Sutton was transported to UT Medical Center via Lifestar.

Fergerson sustained minor injuries.

Officials have not identified the victim killed in the wreck.

It is suspected that alcohol was a factor in the accident, but no charges have been filed.
