ROBBINS (WATE) - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of an elderly man who was found dead inside his Morgan County home.
Harold Dean Reed, 78, was found dead in his home on White Oak Road in Robbins when officers made a welfare check on him.
Investigators are calling the Reed's death a homicide, but additional details have not been released.
Officers say Reed's body has been taken for an autopsy. It's not known how long he had been dead when he was found.
No arrests have made.
Neighbors told 6 News Reed was an author and wrote and least two books.
"Ever since I can remember, he wrote stories and stuff," Louise Baird said.
Baird said she was shocked to learn her dear friend may have been murdered.
"I couldn't believe it," Baird said. "I just backed up and sat down because it really startled me. I knew him since my kids were little biddy."
"I wouldn't figure nobody would want to hurt Reed," neighbor Freddy Morgan said. "Reed was good to everybody."
