George Thomas appeals conviction, sentence

George Thomas appeals conviction, sentence in Christian-Newsom murders

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - George Thomas is challenging his conviction and sentence after his latest retrial.

Thomas' attorneys filed a motion asking for the case to be overturned, for a new trial, and for either a new sentence or a new sentencing hearing.

The defense is arguing a number of factors, including that the evidence at trial was not enough to support the convictions and that it was wrong to impose consecutive sentences.

Thomas was ordered to serve back-to-back life sentences for the murders of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom plus 25 years for the counts of rape.
