Cumberland Ave. business owners and city officials meet

Cumberland Ave. business owners and city officials discuss new codes

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Knoxville city officials and business owners met Tuesday night to discuss the future of Cumberland Avenue.

The city's Cumberland Avenue Corridor Project focuses on a stretch of the strip between 17th and 22nd Street.

Business owners and officials discussed several codes including the height of buildings and their distances from Cumberland Avenue.

City planners hope to transition the area to a space for more than students.

"One of the challenges we consistently deal with is that the student population leaves and so we don't have that year-round market that you have in a lot of other areas," said Anne Wallace, a project manager for the City of Knoxville.

Once business and officials finalize a code, they will present it to the city council.
