KNOXVILLE (WATE) - One man is dead after police responded to a domestic call that turned into a standoff at a Knoxville home on Friday night.

The Knoxville Police Department said they received a call about an argument between spouses on the 3000 block of Cate Avenue.

When officers arrived on scene, a man inside the home refused to come out of the house. Some time later, officers heard a gunshot.

A woman, reportedly the man's wife, exited the house safely.

Officials finally entered the home around 12:15 a.m. and found the 45-year-old man dead.

During the incident, police told neighbor David Forster, who lives behind the couple, to stay inside his home.

Forster told 6 News he never had a problem with these neighbors before.

"I know them when I see them out. They've always been real friendly toward us and speak to us and been extra nice to us," said Forster.

Authorities have not released any additional information at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
