Public invited to bring fossils for identification

JOHNSON CITY (AP) - East Tennessee residents with fossils, rocks, minerals and other artifacts that they can't identify are invited to bring them to the General Shale Brick Natural History Museum at the Gray Fossil Site.

On Tuesday night from 4 to 6 p.m., the East Tennessee State University museum will have a paleontologist, two archeologists and a geologist on hand to identify people's finds.

Collections Manager Brett Woodward said in a news release that the museum's team of scientists loves seeing the public's collections because it helps them to better understand the region.

While the scientists will help identify fossils and artifacts, they will not appraise their value.
