UT parking services to begin booting vehicles

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The University of Tennessee will begin using wheel locks or "boots" instead of towing vehicles, beginning July 1.

Parking services says towing is mostly confined to drivers with multiple unpaid parking tickets or traffic fines.

Wheel locks will now be used to disable the cars. The locks will also be used for cars with stolen or counterfeit handicapped parking permits.

Drivers will have to settle their fines with UT before the boot will be taken off.
