KINGSTON (WATE) - A Roane County woman told her supervisor she stole money from the business she worked for to pay for car repairs, according to a police report.

Amanda Ledbetter, 34, was arrested Sunday on theft charges.

According to the Roane County Sheriff's Office, Jane Ollis, the district area manager of the Rocky Top Markets in Roane County, discovered a problem while reviewing records for March of this year.

Ollis found $7,891 in lottery tickets and $3,155 in grocery items, including cigarettes and beer, were missing.

Ollis told deputies that Ledbetter, who is the manager of the Rocky Top Market on Bluff Road, admitted to stealing the items.

Ledbetter told Ollis she stole the items because she needed the money to get her vehicle repaired while it was in the shop.

Ledbetter said she was inspired to steal lottery tickets after a customer won $500 the previous week.

She was appointed a public defender on Monday.  Ledbetter's next court date will be July 9th if she cannot make her $3,000 bond.
