NEW MARKET (WATE) - The town of New Market is in a tough financial situation and now the mayor tells 6 News he's cutting hours in half for city workers, effectively halving their pay.

The hour cuts affect two maintenance workers and four police officers.

Mayor Charles Guinn said the move comes because of budget problems and was decided at last week's meeting.

Last week, an alderman had described the situation, "a mess."

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has opened an investigation into missing money and former New Market City Recorder Robin Parker.
