Officials: water in Clairfield is not contaminated

Posted: Updated:

CLAIRFIELD (WATE) - Despite rumors to the contrary, officials in a Claiborne County town say the water is safe to drink.

On Thursday, many viewers called the 6 Newsroom with concerns after someone posing as a Clearfork Utility District worker told residents the water supply was contaminated. Residents say that person claimed there was methane in the water.

Officials say this is not true. The utility's manager Roy Price says the levels are within the legal limits, and there is no contamination.

An official from the Tennessee Department's Division of Water Resources was called to inspect the issue. The official also says the department is now investigating the incident to see how this rumor started.
