Lane closures and shifts begin next week in Sevier County

Good Morning Tennessee Anchor/Reporter

SEVIERVILLE (WATE) – Driving along State Route 66 in Sevier County early next week might be more difficult.

The area has been under construction for almost four years as part of an ongoing improvement project for the Parkway that began in 2009.

Orange barrels have lined State Route 66 between Huffaker Road and Knifeworks Lane for over a year.

On Monday and Tuesday, that stretch will have lane closures and lane shifts in both directions as crews install storm drains across the roadway.

The work will begin at 7 p.m. each evening and wrap up by 6 a.m. the following morning, weather permitting.

Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Route 66 project are complete.

Phase 3, which covers about two miles of road, is underway right now and scheduled for completion in October 2014.

Phase 3 will cost about $32.5 million dollars.
