Stacey Campfield requests TBI to investigate automated calls

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - State Senator Stacey Campfield has asked the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to look into reports of automated calls made in reference to him.

Individuals were called by a automated system identifying itself as part of Citizen Opinion Research. Respondents were reportedly asked only about their opinions on Campfield.

"I think it's harassment. I don't think people need to be getting calls like that," Campfield said.

Campfield says the calls did not cease until a negative opinion was given of him. He says the request for a TBI investigation came after several people told him they were willing to press charges against the callers.

"I'm taking this next step to say, I'm willing to go press charges on whoever did this. I'm willing to take this to the next step. I'm pushing the TBI and I hope they investigate and find who did it," Campfield said.

TBI officials say they need a request from the District Attorney to open an investigation into the calls.
