5th Annual Gary Lindsey Memorial fishing tournament this week


KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Area fishing enthusiasts will have a chance to test their skills in the 5th Annual Gary Lindsey Memorial Firecracker Fishing Tournament this weekend.

The overnight bass tournament is held in memory of local fisherman Gary Lindsey who died in 2009.

Blast-off from the Fort Loudoun-Tellico Canal boat ramp is at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 5 with the weigh-in scheduled for the following morning, Saturday July 6 at 7:00 a.m.

First prize for the bass tournament is $2000 with 2nd place playing $1000 and a 3rd place payoff of $750.

There is a $600 prize for the largest catfish.

All proceeds go to the American Red Cross.

In 2012, the tournament raised nearly $12,000 for the Red Cross. The winning team was Joel and Tim Wheelon whose catch weighed-in at 19.51 pounds.
