Bates picks Tennessee in live ESPNU announcement

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Dillon Bates, whose father starred at Tennessee and in the NFL, announced on national television on Wednesday night that he will play college football at UT starting in 2014.

Bates placed a Tennessee hat on his head seconds after telling an ESPNU audience that he selected the Vols over Florida and Alabama.

"That whole coaching staff has done a great job this past class and this class coming up," Bates said of new UT head coach Butch Jones.

"I am just really impressed at what they have done and all the hard work they've put in. I am just ready to get up there and go to work." has Bates (6-3, 225) listed as a four-star outside linebacker. Later this year, he will start his senior season at Ponte Vedra High School in Florida.

Bates' father played at Tennessee from 1979-1982.

Bill Bates later went on to a long and successful career in the NFL, winning three Super Bowl titles with the Dallas Cowboys.

Dillon Bates verbal commitment brings Butch Jones' 2014 recruiting class to eighteen players.
