TELLICO LAKE (WATE) – Nearly 200 fishermen launched their boats Friday night at the Tellico-Fort Loudon Canal to remember one of their own.

WATE 6 Cares is a proud sponsor of the 5th annual Gary Lindsey Fishing Tournament, which remembers fisherman Gary Lindsey.

Lindsey died in 2009 while fishing on Tellico Lake.

Several fishermen told 6 News the rain would make for some good fishing, something Gary Lindsey would have loved.

"I know this is something he would like to see happen and would be proud of. And he would've been a part of it if it happened to anyone else," said fisherman David Walker.

Weigh-in will start at 7 a.m. Saturday.

First prize for the bass tournament is $2000 with 2nd place playing $1000 and a 3rd place payoff of $750.

There is a $600 prize for the largest catfish.

All proceeds go to the American Red Cross.
