Townsend Fire Dept. rescues 11 people from rivers on Saturday

TOWNSEND (WATE) – Townsend first responders worked 11 water rescues Saturday afternoon, according to the Townsend Volunteer Fire Department.

Dispatchers were called a few minutes before 1 p.m. to the Little River at Old Highway 73 and the same river at Carnes Road.

Several people were stranded at Carnes Road as the Little River rose quickly, according to a dispatcher.

The Townsend Volunteer Fire Department and Police Department responded. They paged the Blount County Fire Department and Blount Special Operations Team for help.
