Rain blamed for sinkhole in East Tenn.

BRISTOL (AP) - An 8-foot sinkhole that opened in East Tennessee is being blamed on days of rainy weather.

Bristol Public Services Director Wes Ritchie told the Bristol Herald Courier that the abundance of rain over the last few days likely led to erosion that opened up the sinkhole.

The National Weather Service in Morristown said on Friday that the area had received about 2 inches of rain in 24 hours.

Rain was expected to continue falling through the weekend across the eastern two-thirds of the state.
