CLINTON (WATE) - An Anderson County man was left out in the rain overnight after the suspect in a theft allegedly pushed him off of a barn loft, causing him to fall onto a concrete pad 20 feet below.

Neighbor Brenda Barth walked next door last Friday morning around 7 a.m. after she heard moaning coming from the victim's barn.

She found Jack Archer, 55, of Norris Freeway, lying on the ground next to a tractor.

"It was terrible. He was coherent, but I could tell he was hurting so bad and so cold he couldn't control it. When I say uncontrollable, it was pitiful," Barth said.

Archer told her he had been lying there since after dark on the Fourth of July after he was pushed off of a 20-foot high ledge. He also said the men attacked him with 2x4's.

He was wet and cold because he was exposed to the elements.

Barth went back home to call 911 and get blankets for Archer. He was taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment where he is now listed as stable.

Archer told deputies he saw Dustin Martin, 31, and another man stealing from his barn on Thursday night.

He told deputies Martin pushed him off of the barn loft and he fell 20 feet onto the concrete floor below.

Martin was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary and assault.
