KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A wreck during rush hour on Alcoa Highway brought southbound traffic to a halt early Tuesday.

The crash was reported around 7:00 a.m. just north of Ginn Road involving an overturned tractor-trailer and several cars. Crews were called to clean up a large spill.

According to a preliminary investigation by Knoxville police, Jonathon Brackens, 34, of Sevierville, was driving north on Alcoa Highway when he ran into the back of BMW driven by Kindell Aaron, 30, of Knoxville.

Brackens' pickup then crossed the median and hit the tractor-trailer that was carrying liquid concrete, driven by Jackie Hartman, 45, of Greeneville.

The impact flipped the truck, spilling its contents.

Brackens was ejected from his Ford truck and taken to nearby University of Tennessee Medical Center for numerous injuries.

Hartman also had a minor injury and was taken to the hospital.

Aaron was not inured.

The southbound lanes were closed while crews cleaned up the roadway. Both lanes were back open by 9:20 a.m.

Northbound traffic was reduced to one lane for a time.

Brackens was cited for careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.
