WASHINGTON, D.C. (WATE) - A Knox County nine-year-old received a special honor Tuesday.

She was invited to the White House for a state dinner.

Makenna Hurd of Mascot is one of 54 kids and their parents invited to attend the Kid's State Dinner hosted by first lady Michelle Obama.

Each child and their parents submitted a healthy recipe for the first lady's healthy lunchtime challenge.

The dinner included a surprise visit from President Barack Obama, who greeted the diners, including Makenna.

The recipe that won her a seat at the dinner is called Makenna's Bodacious Banana Muffins, which is included in a special cookbook to go along with the lunchtime challenge.

The book quotes Makenna as saying she bakes muffins with her mother to raise awareness for Down Syndrome.

Her dad Mark said Makenna sells them to schools to raise money for Down Syndrome research and that Makenna wants to open her own bakeshop.

You can find her recipe on the Let's Move website.
