Man steals rug worth $2,500, sells it for $25

DICKSON, Tenn. -

A Cheatham County man is facing charges after stealing an expensive rug from a Dickson church.

According to WDKN Radio, The First Presbyterian Church on North Main Street reported their one-of-a-kind Persian rug missing late June.

Church officials said the value of the handmade rug was around $2,500.

Police didn't have to go far to find it, however, as it was sitting at an antique shop two blocks away from the church.

Upon investigation, officials learned the antique shop had bought the rug for merely $25 from Robert Wagner, 41, of Kingston Springs.

Detectives obtained warrants for Wagner's arrest and jailed him earlier this week. He faces charges of burglary and theft.

He remains at the Dickson County Jail on $5,000 bond.

Wagner is scheduled to appear in court August 8.
