MARYVILLE (WATE) - Two special benefits are being held this weekend for the family of a Blount Bounty teen who was killed in May.

Skyler Boring, 17, was shot and killed in an apparent accidental shooting when he was with a group of friends.

To help with the family's financial costs, people in the community have organized a car show and concert.

The first benefit, a car show, will be held Saturday, July 13, at the American Legion in Maryville. The American Legion is located at 224 Waters Road.

All vehicle classes are welcome.

The car show will be held from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be a live DJ, bake sale, and cake auction.

The second benefit, a metal concert, will be held Sunday, July 14, at 940 Blackstock Avenue in Knoxville, the former home of the Valarium night club.

The concert will begin at 5 p.m. There will be a $7 cover charge.

The concert will include music from 1000 Plane Raid, East Old Topside, and Farewell to Kings.

"It is to keep Skyler's memory alive. That's very important to all of us as a family. It's also to help his mother's financial expenses that are hitting her even as we speak," said Skyler's grandmother, Judy Mincey.

If you are unable to make it to either benefit this weekend, the family has set up the Skyler Boring Memorial Fund at Capital Bank.

You are welcome to make donations there.
