KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Police are investigating after reports of a shooting in the Mechanicsville area of Knoxville.

Dispatchers say officers with the Knoxville Police Department responded to Clinch Avenue near Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center around 8 p.m. Sunday after reports of a shooting victim in the area.

Investigators believe the shooting actually occurred in the Western Heights neighborhood.

A witness on the scene heard the shots and said that his friend was among the wounded.

"I looked outside, and I saw people in a van," said witness Caleb Roach. "They were shooting at each other. People were really shooting at each other. And I started running downstairs to get a closer look and I noticed it was one of my friends who had gotten shot."

Officers also used K-9s to search for a possible suspect along Reed Street.

The condition of the victim or victims is unknown at this time.
