KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A Knoxville police chase ended with gunfire and two men in custody on Monday night, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

Officers said it all began when they approached 20-year-old Jerrell Davis, who has outstanding warrants, and another man on East Summitt Hill Drive around 6:50 p.m.

They said the men took off on foot towards the Old City, and police gave chase.

KPD said the second man, later identified as 21-year-old Calvin Rader, turned and pointed a handgun at one of the officers. Officials said that officer fired a shot at Rader but missed.

Police said Rader tried to hide and ditch the gun in a gravel lot at the intersection of Willow Avenue and Patton Street, but officers were able to arrest him.

Davis continued to flee, but he was taken into custody a short time later while hiding in a storage shed off of Georgia Avenue.

Rader was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, evading and simple possession.

Davis was charged with evading and three outstanding warrants.

The investigation is ongoing.
