Former UT official's attorney seeks to suppress statements in child porn case

Posted:

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A hearing was held Tuesday in federal court for a former University of Tennessee official facing child porn charges.

Bruce Downsbrough, the former UT Foundation vice president, faces four federal child pornography charges after being arrested back in May.

Tuesday's hearing focused on two motions to suppress statements made in a voluntary interview before Downsbrough's arrest, along with items seized during a search of his home.

Two witnesses were called to the stand.

One of them was Downsbrough's assistant during the time of that interview.

The other was a Knoxville police investigator who has been working on the case.

Items seized during the search include DVDs that prosecutors claimed contained child porn that Downsbrough bought from an international company.

The judge will make a decision on whether to allow the statements and evidence before the next court date, which is set for Nov. 5.

The plea cutoff date is October 22.
