Anderson Co. sheriff sues mayor for more funding

CLINTON (WATE) - Anderson County Sheriff Paul White is suing Mayor Terry Frank for more funding.

Sheriff White's lawsuit against the mayor says he needs funding to pay salaries for an additional 36 officers and a coordinator to expand the county jail.

Mayor Frank says that would impact next year's budget and require an eight-cent property tax increase.

Sheriff White says his request is only for the current budget year, and that the money has already been approved by county commission.

"This is not a fight about personalities or politics. It's about money and budgeting laws," Mayor Frank said in a statement released to 6 News. "I like Paul as a person, and we have worked well together since I took office in September of last year. But I can't sign an agreement for more money than County Commission passed in our budget."
