Toddler hospitalized after near-drowning in pool

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A toddler nearly drowned after falling into a pool on Tuesday evening.

Knoxville police said the incident happened just before 6 p.m. at a home on Sundrop Drive in West Knoxville.

The 18-month-old, Zakaiah Miller, had been playing near the shallow end of the pool when he fell in.

The boy was pulled from the water and the child's mother, Jamie Piety, and other adults began performing CPR.

Zakaiah was taken to Children's Hospital where he stayed in the intensive care unit overnight.

Four adults and six children were in the pool at the time of the incident.

Knoxville police believe the incident was accidental and do not plan to file charges.
