State warns consumers about driver license scam


KNOXVILLE (WATE) - People across the state being warned about an identity theft phone scam involving driver licenses.

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security said they're investigating a series of phone calls claiming to be about driver license renewals.

Officials say the scammers are asking people for their Social Security numbers.

The department wants to remind everyone that official driver license communications will always come through the mail.
