NORRIS (WATE) - The University of Tennessee showed off a new house in Anderson County that has received national recognition for its energy savings and conservation.

The New Norris House is meant to show off the best eco-friendly innovations in homes.

Among its features, the house collects rainwater, treats it and provides enough water to meet 30% of the needs of home with two people.

All of the stormwater at the site is collected and either absorbed into the site or used for gardening.

UT officials say if similar strategies were used in all homes, the town of Norris could reduce its water usage by 25 million gallons a year - an amount equal to 34 Olympic-sized pools.

The New Norris House was recently named as a top 10 example of sustainable architecture and green design by the American Institute of Architects and its Committee on the Environment.
