Fire at Crossville nursing home leads to evacuations

Firefighters treated for heat exhaustion after responding to Crossville nursing home fire

CROSSVILLE (WATE) - Two firefighters and multiple patients were taken to the hospital after a fire broke out at a Cumberland County nursing home.

The incident happened at the WyndRidge Health and Rehab Center on Wayne Avenue around 5 p.m.

Crossville Fire Department Chief Mike Turner said the two firefighters, Donnie Tabor and Chris Hall, were treated at Cumberland Regional Medical Center for heat exhaustion.

According to Turner, both Tabor and Hall were released from the hospital Friday evening.

A worker at the nursing home said all patients on ventilators were also taken to the hospital.

There were no injuries and the fire was put out.

The remaining patients were heading back to the rooms after crews cleaned out the area.

Turner says the fire originated from an air conditioning unit in one of the facilities' rooms.

The fire remains under investigation.
