KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Former Tennessee point guard Trae Golden is seeking a fresh start and he's doing it much closer to home.
Golden tweeting Saturday that he is, "Happy to be a part of the Georgia Tech family. Golden telling ESPN.com that he is moving back to his home state of Georgia for his senior season, planning to play his final year of eligibility at Georgia Tech.
Golden says the move closer to home will allow him to be with his ailing father and that Golden plans to get a waiver from the NCAA to be able to play this season and not have to sit out the one year for a transfer.
Golden made 58 starts for the Vols and averaged more than 12 points and nearly 4 assists a game this past season.
There have been reports of Golden's departure being related to off-the-court issues but he says he is leaving in good academic standing.
