White Pine man drowns in Douglas Lake

JEFFERSON COUNTY (WATE) - A White Pine man is dead after drowning Tuesday on Douglas Lake.

Officials with the Jefferson County Rescue Squad say 48-year-old Anthony Gregg drowned after attempting to help his girlfriend's grandchildren after their raft drifted too far out on the lake.

Witnesses say the man stepped off a sandbar and drowned at the Leadvale Access.

Rescue squad members responded to the scene around 8:40 p.m.

Gregg's body was recovered around thirty minutes after the crew's arrival at the scene.
