Investigation continues into Knoxville toddler's death

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A preliminary autopsy indicates a child that died Friday in a Knoxville home had died from asphyxia.

Knoxville police say it will be several weeks before a final autopsy report is completed to show how 19-month-old Ta'mieriah Marsh died.

Police and other first responders were called to Big Oaks Apartments, 3807 Middlebrook Pike, around 5:45 p.m. Friday.

The child was pronounced dead a short time later at UT Medical Center.

Investigators say it appears the child awoke from a nap in her toddler bed and climbed into her older sibling's bed. A short time later the child's mother went in to check on her and found her wedged between the older sibling's bed and the wall.

When the child was found to be not breathing the mother and a neighbor attempted CPR on the child and called 911.
